Face lifting
Over the years, the elasticity of the skin reduces at the same time as our layer of subcutaneous fat becomes thinner. The result is wrinkly, flabby skin, particularly in the lower areas of the face and on the neck. The natural folds of the skin in the face become more pronounced and we look more tired and surly.
Face lifting aims to reduce these signs of aging.
By freeing the skin from underlying structures, we can stretch the muscles upwards and backwards and then drape the skin in a new position. The incision is made on the edge of the scalp, at the front and rear of the ears, and so is almost invisible.
The operation is performed under a light general anaesthetic and takes just over two hours. The first night after the operation is spent at the clinic. A bandage is worn around the head for a couple of days and the stitches are removed after one or two weeks.
The swelling and bruises disappear after about two weeks, which is also an appropriate time for being off work sick. The reduction in feeling in the cheeks in front of the ears may remain for several months but the feeling always returns.
