Hair laser with leading Light Sheer Diode Laser
General information
- You must not sunbathe for a month prior to the treatment, nor are you allowed to expose yourself to sunlight during the treatment period. If you have a sun tan, there is a great risk of skin damage in the form of blisters or changes to your pigmentation.
- Shaving and cutting your hair is allowed during the treatment period. You must not, on the other hand, wax, pluck with tweezers or use hair removal cream 1 month before. This also applies during the treatment period.
- If, for any reason, you cannot make an appointment without informing us, you will be charged SEK 500. We do not treat pregnant women.
- How does diode laser treatment work?
In laser treatment, a beam of light, charged with energy, passes down through the skin. When the light reaches the strand of hair with pigment in it, the energy from the ray is transferred to the hair so that the hair is burned. The radiant heat then destroys the surrounding hair follicle and the root. At the same time as the skin is fired at, there is a cooling effect applied that cools the skin so that it does not get burned.
- What hair can be treated?
Brown or black hair is most suitable for treatment with diode laser. It has no effect on light or grey hair.
- Are there people who cannot be treated?
If you have dark skin, it is doubtful whether you can be treated with a diode laser. The pigment of the skin absorbs the laser light and if you are very tanned there will be less effect on the hair. If a patient has dark skin, a test is always carried out prior to beginning each treatment. In this way, we ensure that the skin will be able to cope with the treatment.
- Are any preparations necessary?
You must not have sunbathed for 3-4 weeks prior to a treatment. The shorter the strand of hair is the better, but, at the same time, we need to be able to see where it is.
- What happens during the treatment?
During the treatment, you will have to lie on a bunk and be provided with protective goggles so that the laser light does not damage your eyes. Before the treatment, you will have a thin layer of gel smeared on your skin in order to create better contact between the laser and your skin. The actual treatment feels like a short prick to the skin, followed by heat. During each shot, an area of 9 x 9 mm is covered in the form of a square.
What can I expect after the treatment?
Immediately after the treatment, the skin may feel warm and a bit red. This subsides within the course of a few hours, after which the skin returns to normal.
You will be able to see and feel the strands of hair that have been burned. There may be the initial feeling that the treatment has not worked, but try pulling the hairs out with tweezers after a few days. You will then discover that the hair is totally loose, which is a sign that the hair roots have been burned. At the same time, this is a good test of the effectiveness of the treatment, or that the treatment has not worked if the hair does not come out. If the hair does not fall out, this may depend on the hair either being too light or too little energy being used during the treatment. Phone the clinic if there is any doubt.
What ground rules apply after treatment with a diode laser?
It is important not to sunbathe for the first few days after the treatment as the skin in the area treated may be a little more sensitive. You can sunbathe or go to a solarium as normal after a week. You can use make-up on the treated area.
Are there side effects?
The immediate side effects are the light burning feeling and redness in the treated area and possibly a small sore in the immediate vicinity of the follicle. Almost everyone experiences one of these symptoms. In individual cases, there may be some burning to the actual skin if you are dark or suntanned. This looks like a more intense redness and swelling with the possible formation of blisters, which heal after three or four days with small crusts (that look like small black dots) around the burned hair. These sores may lead to depigmentation of the skin, but there is never any permanent scarring.
Will more treatments be necessary?
More treatments will be necessary before all the hair is removed. The number of treatments will vary, depending on a number of different factors, such as hereditary factors, age, hair type, where on the body the hair is, hormonal status and any underlying illnesses.
