IPL – Skin rejuvenation
What is IPL?
It is an intensive pulse of light that passes the outer layer of skin and affects and reduces small, fine vessels in the face, fine acne scars, redness, rosacea, sun-damaged skin, changes due to aging, pigmentation, moles and pitting. The formation of new collagen is stimulated and the aging of the skin is counteracted. The skin takes on a more even tone and has a more even, smoother look.
How does it work?
The light passes through the upper layer of skin without affecting or damaging it. The light energy is converted to heat and some pigmented areas such as red blood cells (haemoglobin) and melanin (pigment) react to this, disintegrate and are transported away.
You should avoid sunbathing outdoors or in a solarium for 4 weeks prior to and then during the course of treatment. Dark pigmentation means that the treatment will work less well.
It usually requires 3-5 treatments at 4-weekly intervals. An improvement can be seen after each treatment and you can decide yourself how many times you want treatment.
What happens during the treatment?
First, you must clean any make-up and perfume from the skin and then we smear gel on your skin. A pulse of light will then flash from a light prism and you will experience a warm prick to the skin. Then the light prism will be moved to the next place.
The treatment takes 15-45 minutes, depending on how large a surface is to be treated.
How will I look after the treatment?
Afterwards, the skin may have a slight redness or be swollen for a few days. This is only temporary. Moles may darken a little before disappearing entirely and blood vessels will temporarily become more visible. It is okay to use make-up after the treatment.
What areas can be treated?
The areas that may benefit are the face, neck, chest and backs of the hands.
What result can I expect?
As a general rule, patients are very satisfied with the treatment. There is a gradual reduction in redness, burst blood vessels, irregular pigmentation, pore sizes and fine lines. After each treatment, the skin feels softer and assumes a more even tone.
